Welcome back Ryan! We caught up with our new Regional Sales Manager, Ryan Johnson this week. Ryan previously worked within the Proposals Department at SMS, making him the perfect fit to return and support our customers in a Sales role with his technical experience and knowledge of our Products and Services. Here's a little bit about Ryan:
- Tell us about your role at SMS-Alderley
My responsibilities will be to provide technical and commercial support for clients across the UK and Europe and to ensure that our customers are fully aware of Alderley and SMS’s extensive capabilities in the energy sector.
- What are your ambitions for the UK and European markets?
A key focus of mine is to continue to support our clients with technically compliant and cost-effective solutions. To do so, I need to work closely with both my customers and our in-house team of experts to define and deliver the right solution.
In addition, I would like to grow relationships with prospective customers, to work on new and exciting projects, and make sure everyone is aware of Alderley and SMS’ impressive portfolio – and of course, secure orders.
- What did you do before this role?
I come from a strong technical background, having previously worked in the Engineering Proposals Departments for SMS and Proserv. In fact, I started my career at SMS as Trainee Proposals Engineer after finishing college in 2011.
Fast forward to today – I look forward to getting out there to meet customers old and new and work to best support their needs (although probably virtual meetings for now and in-person as soon as I can).
- How do you spend your free time?
During my free time I enjoy travelling to new and exciting places with my family, playing and watching as much sports as I can and socialising with those close to me.
My most memorable trip was to Iceland a couple of years ago. The country has some amazing sights that will live long in the memory.
- What’s the most memorable moment within your career to date?
Working in the Proposals department can be very fast paced at times when the pressure is on to help secure a key project for the company. It can be challenging to manage complex projects, multiple inputs, changing parameters and finding the right technical and commercial balance to deliver the best solution. However, when the team all pulls together and we manage to secure the all-important order, the hard work pays off and gives everyone a sense of achievement.
- You have been in the industry for over 10* years – looking back, how has it changed over this time?
Technology is ever evolving, and companies are forever coming up with fresh and exciting ideas so in my opinion it’s very important to stay ahead of the game and ensure our customers can access the best solutions on the market.
